Becky Wilson Hawbaker is one of eight great Wilson kids, including Matt, Mark, Rachel, Mike, Daniel. Steve. and Ben.
She graduated from NU High in 1987. Her favorite teachers were Bob O'Brien in History, Jody Stone in Chemistry, and
Ken Butzier in Speech. She went to the University of Northern Iowa and earned a B.A. in History and Teaching.
She met her husband, Aaron, at UNI and married him in 1991. She started a Master's Degree in History at the University of
Iowa, but decided to make a difference with the present instead and finished a Master's Degree in Special Education in 1994.
She was a Resource Teacher at Independence High School from 1994-1998, then returned to her alma mater to teach from 1998
to the present and considers it her dream job, the perfect mix of theory and practice. She is working on her Ph.D. in Special
Education part time while she continues to teach.
Hawbaker has three wonderful children: Cecelia (born in 1997), Katheryn (born in 2000), and Rosalina (born in 2002).
She loves to cook exotic new dishes; to play with her kids; and to read science fiction, historical fiction, and whatever
the book club picks.
